Bharath Cancer Hospital conducts Drawing and Painting Competition
Mysuru: As part of World Cancer Day, Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO), a trusted name in the field of cancer care and cure, conducted a drawing competition for school children at its premises here on Saturday. Children from various schools took part in the competition which was inaugurated by Bhagya Ajaikumar, Founding Director and Curator of Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery, HCG Foundation, Bengaluru and Dr YS Madhavi, Medical Superintendent and Senior Radiation Oncologist, BHIO.
Speaking after inaugurating and going through the drawing of children Bhagya Ajaikumar, Founding Director and Curator of Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery, HCG Foundation, Bengaluru who was overwhelmed with the response from the children said “More than 350 students from more than 20 schools took part in the competition. Really it was an overwhelming response from the students. . It was amazing to note the high awareness levels in the present generation of children irrespective of their economic or social background”.
Dr YS Madhavi, Medical Superintendent and Senior Radiation Oncologist, BHIO who also spoke on the occasion said “BHIO incorporated in 1989 by renowned Oncologist Dr Ajaikumar who is also Executive Chairman of HCG Group of Hospitals and Chairman of Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology, has been raising awareness of cancer for the last more than 33 years. Cancer is curable if detected early and awareness is the key to early detection. Awareness is not only about knowing the early signs and symptoms of cancer but also about leading a healthy style of living which can much reduce cancer risk. To inculcate awareness among children, children should be aware of healthy eating, personal and environmental hygiene and also of the harmful effects of tobacco or other addictive habits which can affect their careers and life. Their creativity and imagination were on full display – some paintings showed the harmful effects of alcohol and tobacco, good dietary habits, the junk foods to be avoided, the effects of personal and environmental hygiene on health and much more”.
The competition was held in four different categories; I to IV, V to VI, VII to VIII and IX to X. Prizes will be distributed on February 4(World Cancer Day) at Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple premise at 6.30am. All the participants were given participant certificates. Dr. Abhilash G.H, Consultant in Medical Oncology and Goutham Dhamerla, Centre Head, BHIO were also present.
